2010 Richard Beard Octave Mandolin (Serial #39) Used, mint condition. Its an outstanding example of Richards fine craftmanship. These are professional grade instruments. Very loud - this would be an excellent session instrument to stand up to those fiddles. It has a strong and powerful percussive sound with a deep rich bass. Hawaiian Koa wood back and sides which I think is a superior tone wood for long scale double course instruments. Ebony fingerboard with slotted diamond inlays and an ebony bridge, solid Sitka spruce top with herringbone top trim. Fitted with an adjustable truss rod. Solid one piece tailpiece eliminates buzzing and loose covers. Fit and finish is first class professional work - as good as those famous guitar makers. Nut is 1 3/8 inch. Scale length is 21 inches. Nice low action plays effortlessly with a great neck. Strap button added at the heel. Fitted with an internal K&K pickup with an endpin jack. Its currently tuned GDAE as an octave mandolin but any zook tuning like ADAD or GDAD would work as well. Handmade in North Carolina and comes with a custom fitted TKL hardshell case.
