1923 Gibson A2Z Snakehead Mandolin

(Serial No. 74945 FON 11911) Snakehead! Excellent condition, all original. The A2Z variation is the most sought after of the Gibson A style round hole instruments, and for good reason. They sound great! The label on this one is marked A2Z, and the order number (FON) is listed in the Spann book as a 1923 A2Z. It has all of the characteristics of the A2Z - blond top, dark back and sides, the inlaid pearl logo, bound top, back and fingerboard, the adjustable bridge, and the thin black line of inner binding on the top. This one was built with the double soundhole rosette rings, similar to the A2. It must have produced early in the sequence as it still has the clamp style pickguard attachment. This is a classic Loar era instrument with the sound that you expect from this period. Plays smoothly with excellent volume and tone. This is just a great sounding mandolin - an excellent demonstration of why many pickers believe the snakehead era mandolins are the best ever made by Gibson. Excellent structual condition showing almost no playing wear. No breaks, cracks or refinish. Natural top finish and brown back and sides. Has the adjustable truss rod. All hardware and finish is original. Comes with the original hardshell case.
