1922 Gibson A4 Mandolin
(Serial No. 69605 FON 1630) Excellent condition showing almost no playing wear. True red sunburst finish. This is the last year before the snakeheads and you get the best of both styles - the wider fingerboard of the paddle peghead neck along with the truss rod and adjustable bridge of the later mandolins. Most importantly, they have the sound of the snakeheads. You get all of the Loar era improvements with a wider neck for more comfortable playing. All hardware and finish is original. Nicely figured wood in the back, and the tuners have the marbled ivoriod buttons only seen for a short while in 1922. Finish and hardware are original. No repairs. Just set up and the frets dressed so the action is excellent. It has the typical woody roundhole Gibson tone. Excellent for Celtic, jazz, classical, or old-time music. Comes with the original hardshell case.
