(Serial Number e1921) Excellent condition. Recording King was a line made by Gibson and mostly sold through the Montgomery Ward stores. This is an extraordinarily rare Gibson made Ray Whitley model with Brazilian rosewood back and sides. In only two total years of production, 180 of these guitars were made. These are the subject of much lore and have been written about extensively in various books as well Vintage Guitar Magazine. Many dealers and collectors never see one of these in person in their entire lives. We were curious and had to buy one. Its a great guitar, no question. Absolutely zero changed parts and no finish work make this a jaw dropping instrument. There is some finish flaking on the pgehead but thats about it for issues. These were constructed by hand at Gibson to the highest specifications including Adirondack top and scalloped x bracing. This will be a crown jewel of any collection and indeed a worthy investment. But more than that- this is a superb sounding guitar that absolutely sings. You will find no finer Brazilian rosewood on any pre war guitar, regardless of brand.
