1952 Martin 000-18 Guitar
(Serial No. 123477) Excellent minus/very good plus condition. Nicely aged spruce top and mahogany back and sides. Martin is supposed to have used Andirondack spruce for the tops until the early 50's, but no one can really tell by looking at it. To be sure, you have put it under a microscope in a lab. This is a beautiful piece of bearclaw spruce. Bearclaw is a natural figure in the wood that is caused by compression on the lower part of the tree trunk. The wood is denser so the top can be lighter, thinner and more responsive without giving up strength. Weighs almost nothing - this guitar is light as a feather. The open back Kluson tuners are original. Rosewood peghead overlay with gold Martin script. Has a Martin C shaped neck profile with a standard 1 11/16 nut width. The bridge was reglued and the neck was recently reset by luthier Dave Sheppard and the action is low and comfortable with plenty of saddle left. Dave also repaired the typical Martin pickguard crack under the high e string, a couple of short dryness side cracks, and a long back crack. No other repairs noted. The frets are in good shape and the neck is straight. There are some minor scratches, nicks and dings and honest pickwear from 57 years of playing. Has a nice big open woody sound with strong volume. Comes with a newer Martin hardshell case.
