1954 Martin 2-15 Mandolin
(Serial No. 21702) How about something a little different? Mandolin is very clean and in excellent condition. Martin was late to the party on carved top mandolins. This was their ennty level carved top mandolin. All original hardware and finish, but it is missing the pickguard. Top is solid spruce and the back and sides are maple with a mahogany stain. Ebony fingerboard with small dot inlays (missing one dot) and original ebony one piece bridge. Good neck set and original frets, neck is straight, plays nice with a low action but still has plenty of volume. These have a sweet sound and good tone but do not cut a banjo quite as well as a Gibson. Here is a short video clip and another short video clip of this instrument as played by luthier Richie Dotson. Great for old-time, Celtic, or jazz. Original tuners and tailpiece cover. Shows a little pickwear but no cracks or major repairs. Comes with the original hardshell case.
