1961 Martin D28 Guitar
(Serial No. 179644) Excellent condition. This is an outstanding bluegrass guitar with all the punch you expect in a older Martin. Nicely aged spruce top and highly figured Brazilian rosewood back and sides. Ebony fretboard and bridge. The neck has been reset in the past and luthier Steve Kovacik just set up the guitar so it plays wonderfully. No cracks or crack repairs - not even a guard crack. Has the standard 1 11/16 inch nut and an ebony fingerboard and bridge. Rosewood peghead overlay with gold Martin script. Has a nice big open woody sound with strong volume. I think the bridge was slightly shaved in the past from the bottom to lower the action as the wings on the brige look thinner to me than standard, but there is plenty of saddle left. Has a spot of buckle rash on the back and the expected finish checking, pickwear, and the usual nicks and dings of a well loved and much played guitar. Here is a short video clip here of this guitar played by luthier Richie Dotson of Acoustic Box LLC. Finish and hardware are original. Comes with the original hardshell case.
