1980 R.L. Givens A5 Mandolin
(Serial No. 216) Excellent condition, sunburst finish. The A-5 was Bob Givens' top model from around 1970 to around 1986. This mandolin has maple back, sides, and neck, an Engleman spruce top, bound body and neck, ebony flat fretboard with dot inlay and a 1 3/16 inch nut, V neck profile, an elaborate RLG in script pearl in the peghead, Schaller tuners, and a Dotson replica Loar ebony bridge. The original Givens bridge is in the case. Signed by Givens on the underside of the top. Strap button added at the heel. Shows the usual nicks and dings of an instrument used to play music, including hand wear to the back of the neck. Excellent strong sounding mandolin with good volume, responsiveness, and a sweet tone that will get loud and chop when needed. Here is a link to a YouTube video of this instrument as played by luthier Richie Dotson, who just set up the instrument. Comes with a nice hard shell case.
