1983 John Schofield F5 Mandolin
(Serial No. 7) Excellent condition. This has been one of my personal mandolins for several years. This is a loud, dark sounding mandolin with a strong bottom end woof. Nice workmanship, very traditional build with beautiful flamed maple back and sides, probably a Sitka top, lacquer finish, flat ebony board with a 1 1/8 inch nut ebony bridge and a pearl logo. I recently fitted new Grover tuners. An Allen one piece brass tailpiece was added as well. I bought this over ten years ago from Brian Aldridge of Dry Branch Fire Squad, and this was the backup to his Loar. The sound is very deep, full and rich with great volume and projection. It responds beautifully to the most aggressive bluegrass or the gentlest picking. Comes with a nice hardshell case.
