1989 Gibson F5L Mandolin
(Serial No. 9250128) If you are looking for a fantastic sounding Gibson F5l you have found it. This one shows some minor playing wear, especially on the gold tailpiece. Just listen to this video clip and this video clip of this mandolin as played by by Richie Dotson of Acoustic Box LLC in Chesterfield VA. This is the classic Gibson scroll mandolin - long neck, f-holes, elevated fingerboard, heavily flamed maple back and sides, gold hardware, solid spruce top, bound ebony fingerboard, and the Fern peghead inlay. All finish and hardware is original - the pickguard is in the case. In 1989 this model was the top of the line for Gibson. This was made in the Bozeman, Montana plant, and was signed by the legendary luthier Steve Carlson on December 4, 1989. The mandolin has just been set up by my luthier. Action is great - easy and low. This mandolin sounds great with a strong chop and bark as it has fought a number of banjo wars around the campfire. Comes in the original hardshell case.
