1923 Gibson F-5 mandolin signed by Lloyd Loar April 10, 1923

This is it - the big one in the mandolin world. This previously undocumented mandolin was signed by Lloyd Loar on April 10, 1923. The mandolin was in a flood in 1985 that destroyed the case. Water did not get in the case, but the moisture opened virtually all of the seams on the instrument. All of the peghead tuner bushings and one tuner button are missing. The remaining hardware appears to be original. Importantly, the labels are intact and legible. Non-original case. The present owner indicates that his grandfather had the mandolin refinished by Gibson in the 1950's. The instrument has been owned by the same family since the 1930's, and a notarized letter of documentation as to providence will be supplied to the buyer. SOLD.The buyer and details of the sale will remain confidential.
