1999 Santa Cruz Tony Rice Guitar

(Serial No. D5999R) Mint nearly unplayed condition. Santa Cruz is one of the best small shop luthiers, and the Tony Rice is their signature model. Its a copy of the famous D-28 first played by Clarence White and later owned and played by Tony Rice. This modelfeatures highly figured Indian rosewood back and sides, a Sitka spruce top with double tapered bracing and and hand scalloped tone bars, herringbone rosette, herringbone top trim with grained ivoriod body binding, and a zipper backstripe. Like Rice's famous guitar, the bound ebony fingerboard extends into the large (4 1/4") soundhole. 25.25 inch scale, 1 11/16" nut width, 2 3/16" string spacing at saddle, no fretboard inlays except Santa Cruz SCGC logo at the 12th fret (regular side dots at the usual frets), plain Brazilian rosewood peghead overlay, Santa Cruz open-gear tuners. Its a very lightly constructed guitar which makes it extremely responsive. Very powerful bluegrass voice. It combines the bass presence of an old D-28 with more substantial midrange and treble. No repairs or refinish. It plays very easily with a nice low action. Works well for hard flatpicking but will also respond to a delicate touch for fingerstyle. Comes with a nice Ameritage hardshell case.
