2011 Mike Black A5 Mandolin
(Serial No. 201108-09) Excellent condition. Mike Black builds in Lawrence Kansas and has been doing this since 1994, so he has figured out how to get the sound. I bought this from a professional bluegrass player in North Carolina, who was using this as one of his stage mandolins. Dark sunburst varnish finish with an Adirondack red spruce top, tone bar bracing, hide glue construction, nicely flamed maple back and sides, 3-ply bound body, neck and peghead, 1 1/16 pearl nut, flat fretboard, v neck profile, and the fretboard is scooped above the 20th fret with flush frets on the extension for a traditional appearance. Has a pearl logo and inlay, Rubner tuners with black buttons and a custom engraved satin nickle James tailpiece. Frets are excellent, neck set is perfect and the mandolin has just been set up by my luthier so the mandolin plays like butter. Has a strong tone and volume with good chop - excellent bluegrass sound! Here is a short video clip of this instrument played by Richie. Comes with the original shaped hardshell case.
