1915 Gibson F2 Mandolin
(Serial No. 22429 FON 2491) Excellent condition showing some checking and playing wear. The F2 is the same mandolin as the top of the line scroll F4, but with less fancy cosmetics. It has the somewhat rare blonde top finish with reddish back and sides, flamed birch two piece back, inlaid Handel tuners, pearl logo, bound top and bound ebony fingerboard with treble extension. Nice big woody sound from this mandolin with good bass! The finish and hardware are original. Neck is straight, frets are fine, neck angle is correct and the instrument was just set up by luthier Richie Dotson. There are some very minor pick scrapes on the top near the soundhole and some finish checking all over. There is a professionally repaired short top crack at the scroll. F2s are getting harder to find in decent playable condition, and prices are continuing to rise every year. Did I mention that it has really strong tone and volume and plays like butter? Here is a short video clip of this instrument played by Richie.Comes with the original shaped hard shell case.
