(FON 11089) This is a F2 from late 1917. It sounds FANTASTIC! Thats why I bought it. It has lots of cosmetic issues but there are no major repairs. Plays like a dream as it was just set up. The F2 is the same mandolin as the top of the line scroll F4, but with less fancy cosmetics. It just missed the Handel tuners. It has red sunburst top finish and reddish back and sides, flamed birch two piece back, pearl logo, and a bound top and bound ebony fingerboard with treble extension. Nice big woody sound from this mandolin with good bass! The finish and some of the hardware are original. Bridge has been chaged to a modern Loar adjustable replica and the tuners are modern, probably Gotah. Neck is straight, neck angle is good and the instrument was just set up by luthier Jerry Ray. Shows significant playing wear. F2s are getting harder to find in decent playable condition, and prices are continuing to rise every year. Did I mention that it has really strong tone and volume and plays like butter? Very good action and tone. Comes with a newer hardshell case.
