1915 Gibson A1 Mandolin

(Serial number 23393 FON 2543) Excellent condition with one noticable and very cool repair, natural top finish. This is the classic teens Gibson oval hole mandolin, which is excellent for Celtic, folk, jazz, old time or just picking fiddle tunes. Natual top finish with a dark reddish brown back and sides, ebony fretboard, original tuners, original pickguard, repro Loar era adjustable ebony bridge, and pearl logo in the peghead. Neck is straight, frets are good and it was just set up so it plays very well. Original finish and hardware. Well, you are probably wondering why a repair is "cool". The mandolin developed a tuner crack on the treble side of the peghead. Most luthiers just glue up the crack, clamp it, and thats it. This repair is a little different. A series of brass screws were installed in the treble edge of the pickguard. Its a very old school repair by a master craftsman. Plays very easy and has strong volume with a very balanced sound. Comes with a newer hardshell case.
