1924 Gibson A1 Snakehead Mandolin
(Serial No. 78789 FON 11089) Snakehead! These are the most sought after of the Gibson A style round hole instruments, and for good reason. They sound great! This is the same style as my personal mandolin and sounds about the same - this is a session monster. Stamped A on the label. It has a hand painted logo, top bound only, with the original bump end tuners. This is a classic Loar era instrument with the sound that you expect from this period. Plays smoothly with superior volume and tone. This is just a great sounding mandolin - an excellent demonstration of why many pickers believe the snakeheads are the best oval hole mandolins ever made by Gibson. For a short video clip of this mandolin played by Nathan Beaumont click here. Excellent condition with some minor finish wear at the usual places and the nicks and dings of a well-loved instrument. The back seam was reglued in places, but it is not noticeable and the label is not split. No other repairs. Has the adjustable truss rod and bridge. All hardware and finish is original including the pickguard. Comes with the original hardshell case and all the volume you need to deal with those pesky tenor banjos and fiddles.
