1957 Silvertone Mandolin
(Serial No. none) Excellent condition. Good sounding vintage USA made entry level mandolin for not a lot of money. The tuners date between 1956 and 1958, so I picked 1957 as the age of this mandolin. This would be an excellent instrument to learn to play mandolin. Silvertone was the brand name for instruments sold by Sears and Roebuck. Sears however was not the builder; the builder was Kay in Chicago. Other than the peghead shape, this mandolin is identical to the mid 1950s Kay mandolins. The neck has a slight bow but is very playable, neck angle is good and the frets are in great shape. The original Kluson tuners work fine. The frets were dressed and the mandolin was set up by local luthier whiz Marty Beeson, so plays very easy. Shows a little playing wear and the the usual nicks and dings of a well loved instrument used to make music, not just living in the case. Nice hardshell case included.
