2008 Collings SJ Guitar

(Serial No. 15540) Mint nearly unplayed condition. I cannot find a single indication that this guitar was played, except for the installtion of a strap button. This is the Collings version of the body size commonly called a small jumbo. Beautiful flamed European maple back and sides, Adirondack spruce top, and an ebony bridge and fretboard. The 16 inch lower bout is just slightly wider than a dreadnought, and the sides are almost as deep. The tight curve at the waist creates a very different sound chamber. I have found that SJs, especially in maple, usually have a stronger midrange response when compared to a dreadnought. Many maple guitars sound trebly or brittle to me, but this one has a full, rich sound with good bass. I love Gibson J-200s, but they are just too big for me to play comfortably unless I am standing. I like to pick sitting down most of the time. This SJ gives the tone and volume of a big maple jumbo but it is much more comfortable to play. Collings guitars are known to sound good right out of the box, and this one fits right in. Excellent volume, with clear trebles, a strong midrange, and deep bass. Action is nice and low. Has a 1 3/4 inch bone nut. Neck is straight, frets are perfect, neck set is good. Absolutely no issues of any kind.
