2008 McClanahan F5 "Shed" Mandolin
(Serial No. 715) Excellent near mint restored condition. When I purchased this mandolin,it was evident that it had a rough life. There was significant pick wear on the top where the pickguard should have been mounted. Unfortunately, the previous owner had a heavy right hand. I sent the instrument back to to Jonathan (the builder), and he worked his magic. He regraduated the top to his current specifications, added a speed neck, refretted the mandolin with the hard Stewmac frets, refinished only the top, and set the mandolin up. This is one of his famous "shed" mandolins built in his old shop. The top is Adirondack red spruce and the back, sides and neck are flamed hard maple. The tuners are gold plated Schallers. Soundwise this one cuts right through - it will run your local banjos right out of town. The craftsmanship and sound of this mandolin are both exceptional; this mandolin has been extensively played so the tone and volume have developed nicely. It has a wide sonic range from a classical whisper to a powerful bluegrass bark and chop, and it will only improve with more play time. Has an 1 1/8 inch nut on the flat ebony fingerboard. Has a pearl peghead logo which according to Jonathan is the only one he has inlaid with a curved logo. Has the original hand engraved tailpiece cover. Here is a video clip of this mandolin as played by Nathan Beaumont. Action is low and easy - it plays like silk. Original shaped hardshell case included.
