1920 Gibson A2 Mandolin

(Serial No. ?6065 FON 11343) Excellent condition, Sheraton brown top finish, dark brown back and sides, bound top, back and fret board, pearl logo, ebony fretboard and bridge. I cannot read the first number of the serial number, but the Factory Order Number (FON) cross- references to a 1920 build date. That matches the Gruhn book, which indicates this model was made from 1918 to 1922, at which time it went to a snakehead design. Excellent tone and volume, plays nicely as it was just set up by my luthier. Only one minor repair noted - there is some glue residue at the end of the fretboard. No idea why it is there. No other repairs noted and none needed, neck is straight, frets are fine, all original finish and hardware, but missing the pick guard. Has the usual nicks and dings of a mandolin used to make music for over 100 years. Big open woody round hole sound. Here is a video clip of this mandolin as played by Joe Donahue. Comes with the original hardshell case.
