1920 Gibson F2 Mandolin
(Serial No. Serial No. 61289 FON 11271) Bought locally from the son of the original owner. Completely original finish and hardware. Excellent structural condition showing some playing wear - this was not a case queen. The F2 is the same mandolin as the top of the line scroll F4, but with less fancy cosmetics. It has the red sunburst top finish with a reddish brown back and sides, two piece back, pearl logo, top bound only, bound ebony fretboard with treble extension. The original pickguard is showing a bit of crystalization in the center but is stable. Neck is straight, neck angle is good and the frets were just dressed and the mandolin was set up by luthier Jerry Ray. No repairs noted. Nearly 100 years of playing shows some arm wear on the top edge, some strap wear at the scroll, the usual nicks and dings and some ramdom spotting of the finish. F2s are getting harder to find in excellent condition. Did I mention that it has good tone and volume and plays like butter? Comes with the original purple lined hardshell case.
