1920s Iucci Tenor Banjo
(Serial No. none) Excellent condition. Iucci was a well known maker of banjos in the 1920s. This is a early 17 fret tenor banjo with a 12 3/8 inch head. These are traditionally tuned CGDA, but mostly I see these tuned GDAE and used in Irish or Celtic music. This one has a 20 inch scale length with a 1 inch nut. Has ebony peghead overlay and fingerboard, pearl peghead logo and fretboard inlays, a five ply maple rim, and a brass sleeve type tone ring stamped patented June 29, 1920. This is the metal part with large holes seen on the side. There is some really nice wood marquetry on the side of the rim. Has a beautiful birdeye maple neck and friction tuners. Fitted with a Fiberskin head. Looks like there was a pickup attached to the dowel bar, as there are some small holes in it. It does not appear to have had a resonator. No repairs noted. The neck is straight and in set, frets are good, and the action is low and comfortable. Hardware and finish appear original. Comes with a nice hard shell case.
