1922 Gibson A Mandolin
(Serial No. 69206 FON 11623) If you are looking for a good session mandolin, going more for tone and volume, and do not mind a few repairs and wear and do not need the fancy trim, this is your mandolin. Here is a 1922 Gibson A style mandolin. Just an "A", so its top bound only and does not have the pearl logo. It does have the Gibson label inside and, importantly, it has the adjustable truss rod. This lets you set the mandolin up for your local climate and allows you change it easily if needed. Keeps the neck straighter, too. 1922 is the beginning of the Loar improvements to the mandolin such as the adjustable truss rod and adjustable bridge. Plays smoothly with excellent volume and tone. Its not a case queen, but it was played extensively. No breaks, cracks or refinish, but it does show evidence that the back was off at one time and reattached in a somewhat sloppy manner. The top is nice showing typical wear on the Sheraton Brown finish. The sides are the worst part cosmetically, but hey - you don't play the sides. Finish, tailpiece and tuners are original. The truss rod cover is original German nickle silver, only used by Gibson for part of one year. Missing the pickguard. Comes with a newer hardshell case.
