1923 Gibson A2 Mandolin

(Serial No. 71864 FON 111763) Very clean mandolin in excellent original condition. The paddle peghead mandolins just prior to the snakeheads have all of the Loar sound and improvements with a slightly wider fretboard. They sound great! The serial number indicates a 1923 sales date, but the factory order number indicates the mandolin was made in 1922. The label is marked "A2". It has the inlaid pearl logo, bound top, back and fingerboard and the double thin sound hole rosettes. This is a classic Loar era instrument with the sound that you expect from this period. Plays smoothly with excellent volume and tone. This is just a great sounding mandolin - an excellent demonstration of why many pickers believe the Loar era mandolins are the best ever made by Gibson. Original Sheraton Brown top finish and brown back and sides. Has the adjustable truss rod. All hardware and finish is original but it is missing the original pickguard. Comes with the original hardshell case in nice condition.
