(Serial No. 84506) Excellent condition. Kentucky was one of the first to produce high quality F5 copies in the late 1970s and early 1980s. THis instrument has a five digitThey were built in the small Maruka workshop in Japan, where Japanese luthier and master carver Eiichi Sumi is well known for being a part of the small team of 4 builders that were responsible for these amazing instruments. He has literally carved out a career of distinction based upon the mastery of building the finest arch top instruments in all of Japan. The mandolin has many high end touches, such as a highly flamed maple back and sides, a hand carved spruce top, Fern style peghead logo with a matching truss rod cover, and ivoriod binding. The tuners look like either Schaller or Grover replacements and the tailpiece cover is replaced. The instrument has been played and shows signs of use. No repairs are evident. The flat ebony fretboard has an 1 1/8 inch nut and is scooped to eliminate pick click. The top has very minor playing scratches and small knicks. The mandolin was just partially refretted and set up by luthier Marty Beeson. The action is low with a fully working truss rod and ebony bridge. Here is a short video clip of Nathan Beaumont of Brandon, FL picking some bluegrass. Comes with the original rectangular hardshell case.
