(Serial No. none) Excellent condition. Good sounding vintage USA made entry level mandolin for not a lot of money. This would be an excellent instrument to learn to play mandolin. Silvertone was the brand name for instruments sold by Sears and Roebuck. Sears however was not the builder; the builder was Kay in Chicago. Other than the peghead shape, this mandolin is identical to the mid 1950s Kay mandolins. The neck is straight, neck angle is good and the frets are in great shape. The original tuners were shot so I replaced them with a set from the 1960s with an identical footprint. The frets were dressed and the mandolin was set up by local luthier whiz Marty Beeson, so plays very easy. Shows a little minor playing wear and the the usual nicks and dings of a well loved instrument used to make music, not just living in the case. No case but I'll try to find a gig bag.
