His construction shows inspiration from the classic Martin dreadnaughts of the mid-1930s, often called the Golden Age of Martin. Both the braces and the top are select AAA grade Adirondack (red) spruce. The braces are hand scalloped to 1930s specifications, with a high X-brace. The top has both herringbone and ivoroid top trim. The bridge plate is made from 100 year old maple. The back and sides are Honduran mahogany. Jim uses traditional build techniques, such as hide glue construction and nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The guitar has a two way adjustable truss rod. Fossil ivory is used for both the nut and the saddle. The bridge and fretboard are ebony. Tuners are Waverly. The nut width is 1.75 inches, scale length is 25.4 inches, and string spacing at the bridge is 2 5/16 inch. The neck was just reset by luthier Jack Dillen so the action is low and comfortable. The guitar is in near mint condition and comes with the original high quality custom hard shell case.
